My Top 3 Photo Editing Apps for iPhone 7!

As a professional photographer, I know how extremely important capturing memories are. As an artist, I understand the importance of creating and having an outlet. As a mother, I have a need to document all the little pieces in my children's lives, even if they are seemingly insignificant. The new technology in cell phone cameras is so amazing some people use them for the product photos for the etsy and ebay stores. In this ever changing society, I feel like cell phone cameras and photos definitely have a place. I know that many professional photographers would disagree with me, but I'm so grateful for mine. Without it, certain moments with my family would go otherwise undocumented! Without further ado, here are my favorite free photo editing apps for the iPhone 7.

Filmborn

Filmborn is an app created by Mastin Labs. Kirk Mastin also makes the BEST Film Lightroom presets. 9x's out of 10 I am using this app to either edit an existing cell phone photo or to take one within the app. Filmborn really just works well with my own personal style, and it's so easy to use!

Filmborn has a basic adjustments panel, a crop factor panel that sizes your photos with film sizes, AND a film presets panel that includes Fuji 160NS, 400H, 800Z; Ilford PAN-F, HP5, D3200; and KODAK PORTRAP160, P400, and P800.

The one thing that I LOVE about Filmborn is when you take a photo from the app, you can adjust the exposure before you take a picture by sliding your finger up and down on the screen (like with the regular iPhone camera), and you can adjust the white balance by sliding your finger left and right. Another interesting feature is being able to adjust your focal length to 35mm and 50mm.

The below photo was taken with my iPhone 7 and edited with the Filmborn app. I adjusted the white balance, contrast, crop, and sharpness.

In the next photo I did basic adjustments like above with the addition of the Fuji 400 preset.

These are examples of the PAN-F under the ilford preset collection.

Here is a screenshot of the interface when you are making decisions in camera while taking a picture.

Next on my list is PicsArt! This app is amazing with tons of filters, adjustments, and fake bokeh lol. This is by far the funnest photo editing app I've downloaded. Not only is it fun, but it gives you the most options I've seen with a free app. In fact, it gives you more options than Enlight, which is a paid app, and it is more intuitive and easier to use in my opinion. It has a lot of options you would find in photoshop. Obviously it's nothing like photoshop in terms of quality and usability, but it's extremely fun to play around with!

For the images below I used a variety of simple adjustments (like curves) up to the fun holga filters. Even though this app can do some pretty crazy things, you can also keep it very simple and subtle by staying in the basic adjustment panel. It used to be my go-to app for cell phone images until Filmborn came out.

The funniest app on my list is PhotoFunia. While this app will never be taken seriously, it's on my list because of how much fun my friends, family, and I have had with it and all of the laughs we've shared because of it.

Above is a picture of my Aunt Anne with a monkey in a crystal ball. The image is hilarious to me and my family, and it wouldn't mean anything to anyone else, but we STILL laugh when we see it! I use this app when I want to have a bit of fun and keep things happy and light in my life.

While I may not do a ton of adjustments on my professional photographs, nor do I use a ton of presets, I give myself a lot of freedom with my cell phone images.

Thanks for reading everyone. I hope in the very least you check out the Filmborn app! This is the first of some iPhone posts I will be doing to educate and inspire good iPhonography. I am thinking my next cell phone post may be some tips on how to get good cell phone photos. Let me know what you want to see next!
